Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and her Honduran counterpart Xiomara Castro met at the National Palace. Both leaders emphasized that cooperation is key to addressing the structural causes of migration and promoting well-being in their countries of origin. During the meeting, they announced the launch of the second phase of a program that will provide more job training opportunities for youth and foster sustainable development for agricultural communities. The leaders also highlighted significant advances in energy cooperation following agreements signed between Honduras and Mexican institutions such as Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission. Both stressed the importance of continuing this collaboration through experience sharing, capacity building, and technology transfer to drive more efficient, modern, and sustainable energy systems. In the cultural sphere, an update was provided on the investigation into the photograph of General Francisco Morazán. According to Mexico's National School of Conservation, Restoration and Museography, there are indications that it is indeed an original portrait, but the investigation must be completed to be fully certain of its authenticity. Castro also noted that the upcoming presidential election in Honduras "will be free, transparent, and adhere to the country's constitutional norms." Castro's official visit to Mexico, where she arrived on Sunday afternoon, came less than a week before the Central American country's presidential elections. More than six million Hondurans are called to the polls this Sunday to elect a successor to Castro, the first woman to hold the office, whose four-year term ends on January 27. "Today we receive in the National Palace the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, who is about to conclude her term; we recognize her work and commitment to her people. Thank you for the friendship and the good bilateral relationship," Sheinbaum pointed out in a social media message.
